New Business

I own a Dog Fitness company. Who would have ever thought such a crazy idea of exercising dogs would evolve into a reality?

What I've learned? Take chances and follow your dream. But don't take on too many partners.

JFK-50

Yea! After 2 previous DNS (did not start) entries in the JFK-50 mile race, I'm finally doing it this Saturday. For the first time in a long time, I'm in near-peak physical condition and eager to spend the solitude and meditative time completing this race (in under 12 hours, I hope).

Why I'm doing it?

It all started when I backpacked along the Appalachian Trail as a backpacking counselor at 19. We met several Thru-Hikers along the way, and I was intrigued with the idea of spending 6 months hiking on the trail. After my summer of backpacking, I made one of those youthful pacts,"I'll backpack the AT by the time I'm 50."

Seemed then that I had a long time to prepare, but as the time drew nearer, and I actually began to plan a thru-hike (My DNS Thru-Hike), I discovered I had accumulated too much to leave behind for so long (a mortgage, pets, people, ailing parents, oh - and an income).

NOTES AFTER THE FACT (added 02/15/07) I finished.

I'm hoping this race fulfills my nearly lifelong dream to complete a thru-hike. The first 13 miles are even on the AT. And, I'll complete it while I'm still 50.
